A contract must be signed when adopting a Maine coon kitten from A Big Kitty Cattery. This contract is designed to protect the buyer, the breeder, and the welfare of the kitten.
Breeder’s obligations
1. The breeder warranties that the kitten is free of feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) and feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) at the time of adoption. If the kitten is diagnosed with FPV or FIP within 7 days by a licensed veterinary, the kitten can be returned to the breeder for a full refund or exchange for another kitten.
2. The breeder provides lifetime genetic health guarantee. If the kitten is diagnosed with a genetic disease by a licensed veterinary, the kitten can be returned to the breeder for a full refund or exchange for another kitten.
3. The breeder has completed fully FVRCP vaccinations, deworming and flea treatments.
4. The breeder provides 30 days health insurance, and waiting periods are waived.
5. The breeder guarantees that this kitten is a purebred Maine Coon feline and provides CFA or TICA registration papers.
Buyer’s obligations
1. This kitten is without breeding rights, not be allowed to produce any offspring and on a spay/neuter agreement. The kitten is required to be spayed/neutered no later than 8 months of age.
2. The buyer agrees to provide the kitten with a clean, pleasant environment with adequate space. The kitten will not be caged unless absolutely necessary for the safety or health.
3. The buyer will provide the kitten with proper nutrition of premium food. Meat, wet food and grain free high protein dry food are recommended. Fresh and clean water will be provided daily. At least one litter box will be provided for each cat in the household and will be cleaned daily.
4. The buyer will provide the kitten with proper veterinarian care and vaccinations.
5. The buyer agrees the kitten will live indoors only and will not let the kitten roam outdoors. Letting the kitten roam outdoors is dangerous and is a violation of this contract.
Probable additional costs
1. Any cost of shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.
2. Any cost of additional requirements for international shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer, such as veterinary certificate, rabies vaccination and microchip.
Long-term health care and/or legal proceedings
1. The breeder will not be held liable for any veterinary or health care costs occurring while the kitten is in possession of the buyer.
2. The breeder’s maximum liability to the buyer for any and all losses, claims, damages, or liability of any kind shall be limited to the amount paid by the buyer to the breeder.
3. If legal proceedings become necessary, the buyer agrees that all legal and/or court procedures take place in the county which the breeder resides.
By signing below, the parties of the breeder and the buyer indicate that they have read and agree with all of the provisions of the above contract.
